The gulf of Lava
The Gulf of Lava is an unknown place on the west coast of Corsica. This beach manages to keep its tranquillity and charm even during the summer rush. Situated only 1 hour from Ajaccio town centre, the road that takes you there will offer breathtaking panoramic views. If you are looking for a family beach, far from the crowds of July and August, with an exceptional environment, this is the place to go. Leaving Ajaccio, head towards the village of Alata to conquer the Pruno pass. From there you will be able to discover the Punta castle erected in the 19th century by the Pozzo Di Borgo family from stones specially brought back from the Tuileries Palace. Then head towards the promontory village of Villanova and its authentic charm offering a fascinating view of the Gulf of Lava, before descending towards the beach of Lava and its crystalline waters.
Porticcio and the Ajaccio southern shore
To reach the South Shore in complete safety, a shuttle bus will take you across the Gulf of Ajaccio in only 20 minutes. So get on board with your bikes and set off to discover this pretty corner of paradise! Pedal to the paradisiacal beach of Mare e Sole also called the Silver Beach which benefits from an unfailing reputation with turquoise waters, sandbanks and wild cows basking in the shade of the pines. Go inland and climb effortlessly up to the small village of Pietrosella and then down through Coti-Chiavari to reach the coast via the Castagna where you can see its Genoese tower.
